Art Exhibition | LAN approaching | Merchandise WANT Galore

With exams over, we are now preparing for the mid-year art exhibition at college. Since the theory part of the exam is over, part of the exhibition is the display of our practical works that we've created over the last few months, which will be marked or remarked... depending on which you prefer.
Since I've chosen to redo certain works, your mark will be set to a new average, I'm currently completing old and new works.
There is also the opportunity to create an artwork on a wooden block (mini canvas of sorts) and sell it! Well... the money goes towards the college but, it's good publicity.. which every starting artist values greatly!
Not a bad compensation before a long, 3 week-or-so break, isn't it?
As said on twitter... NEET mode on!

Anyone else planning on going into NEET mode this holiday, at least partially....?

It has been an extremely long time since my previous post and generally a long time since being online in a 'regular' fashion. That said, I have missed you all terribly TwT Whether I read your blog or you mine, whether we communicate on Dannychoo or not, whether we chat via msn or not... I miss it all! TT____TT A solution approaches and that is holiday!

When are you celebrating your holiday and what are your plans, if any?

Next weekend, the 19th to 21 June, I hope to attend a LAN. If you've been following my blog since last year... this is the 3 day LAN that happens monthly in my country. This year onii-chan and I are attending together, of course many of our friends will be there too. After the long months of college, intense gaming is in order! (b^o^)7

For my readers, do you attend any LANs? If so, what type of games or games do you enjoy most?
Personally, I'm into my strategy/FPS>RTS stuff mainly though I play anything that appeals to me.

Not really a rant but, something that I'd like to share with you. Entering college can be good and bad, especially if you're stuck buying art supplies every day, week or month... and still have college fees to attend to as well. Sadly, Suki has not bought any figurines, manga or anything of the sort due to this. I imagine that I'm not the only one going through this so...

How do you cope with this situation or do you rebel? [rebel rebel (b^_~)]

For those of you who may be wondering, college life is really exciting. Although my course is Graphic Design, the college is Fine Arts based and as a result our course gives us firm foundations in both computer and fine arts. An idea of the subjects we take: Photography, Illustration, Figure Drawing, History of Art (Theory),Research (AKA Free period), Printmaking, Communication, Design, DTP, Object Drawing, Alternative Media and Jewellery Design (also 3D-based design).

It's a full schedule and certain classes would appear more frequently than others but, that's okay.
The exam is an essay, which has to be written in 5 days.... That's better than regular testing, I suppose. The exam will be given to us on Monday... gambarimasu! >___<

Finally, if I haven't missed anything, there's good news on the other spectrum of my hobbies! suki has always wanted to play drums and so, after confirming with the parents... it wouldn't work TwT [That was back then when] [Present] suki now has both the opportunity to get her DRUMS!!!! I'll still be writing music and possibly playing other instruments as well but now is the time for DRUMS~ (>/^o^)>/ [It's supposed to be playing drums...lolols, just made that smiley now ^^;]

Do you play any instruments or would like to, if so, which one(s)?

Holidays will start after the theory and practical exams.. so lets hope we can all meet (properly) once its all over >__<

Figures from Tochigi-ken! | College start!

Over the festive season, I placed an order for two figurines through an international supplier.
This was my first international order for figurines, so I was rather excited for this ^^;
Rushing to get my camera once the box arrived... I finally realised that my camera had a problem T_T

So sadly, I present to you... pictures with my (rather bad) mobile phone.
The area for the picture is bad too, my pc/art desk ^^;

Well, in about 15 minutes... I am off to my first day at college! I'm still blogging and doing my usual online prowling... just minimized XD

Purchase cut down! | Older and Wiser..?

After checking through the (rather long) list of figurines and other merchandise that I compiled, I realised that there were some things I didn't *really* want.
Considering the current economical situation and other life expenditure... it'd be best to change the manner of spending or not spend at all ^^;

Have you come across situations like that? Having to cut down or make compromise?

Aaaand, on a more random life-related note, I celebrated my birthday on Friday and spent it with my Nii-san, um brother, cousins and friends.
It's pretty amazing how you don't really 'feel'older even though you are XD
Well, it was fun so, I thought of sharing that with you ^___^

Sold out | Late fandom is bad | Yuki is on her way!

The time it takes to become part of a certain fandom may be one of the ideas that can kill a fandom.
If this does not make sense to you, I shall elaborate.

Being able to enjoy a series (whether its manga, anime, novel, game or visual novel), from the starting point is a valuable experience.
You are able to gain interest at an early stage and this helps you do purchase the merchandise for the show at an early stage.
Not having the opportunity to 'catch-on' to the in jokes, merchandise and product may be a chance for you to not support the idea at all, you've arrived too late, after all.

It is not something people choose to experience and so, we need to ensure that we stop this!
Perhaps not in an extreme manner but, take a look below at the repercussions:

As you can see ^^; It's almost as if 'long sold out' is poking fun at you... yes, it is ^^;
The image above is a little taste of what I wanted to order but, the items are now... almost impossible to get.
To avoid this happening to my dear readers, I am sharing a slice of wisdom.. even if you knew it already ^___^

On a happier note, my Nagato Yuki Guitar Wizard is on her way! She'll be arriving sometime this month, let's hope that changes to *week* XD
I'm not too sure what to order after this, however, Nendoroid, manga, Gundam model kit and something different wouldn't be a bad idea.

Joints and Movability

As much love as there is for the Nendoroid series, the Figma range may be on close par.
If we look at this in more depth, we can say that there is a certin group of people who tend to prefer articulated figurines.
There are some who can still enjoy the static figurines but, the question is:

How creative are you when it comes to your jointed figurines?

El Figure | LAN | College

I few events have occurred and approach me during this time.
Firstly, I have pictures of my newest figurine to share. She is more of a sculptor's figurine and not particularly related to any franchise.










The following pics may appear to have better lighting; I (with the help of my dad) made a photography box.
Sadly, I am not yet accustomed to my camera and somehow managed to either blur of capture part of the box in ^^;

As some of my fellow DC readers may know, I have been accepted into College!
My dream of pursuing a career in Graphic Design is within my reach and now I'll be doing my best to prove myself.

How did you first react when you got into College/managed to get a job?

Finally, I am attending a LAN after many years. The LAN in itself is quite a big one, hosting 200+ people and lasting 3 days long.
As I am buying pc upgrades to day, I should be able to play with more ease , however, it's been a while since I've gamed competitively so, I'm sure I'll be rusty ;_;

Anime Oops part.3 | Fate/Stay Night Patch Out | Figma fangirlism

It has been quite some time since a new segment of 'anime oops' so, I finally present one.
Upon the release of the full Fate/Stay Night by mirrormoon
I decided to rewatch The Fate/Stay Night anime while I wait for the game to 'arrive'.

Finally, since my Rin Figma arrived (and Shinki), I have been fangirling over them!
The joints which put me off before is now a new moe~

After a day of delay, an email of concern, much panic ... she has arrived! I placed my preorder for my Tohsaka Rin Figma back in August sometime and she finally arrived!
It has been a painful wait but, now that she's here I can feel at ease ^-^

As I had not uploaded my Busou Shinki or Nendoroid Yuki pics yet.. the Flickr link will lead to a collection of pics which I had taken last night.

Happy figure releases vs. Sad wallet [pic heavy post]

This post was brought on by the waves of lovely releases that seems to be approaching us in the coming months.
Being enthusiatic about figurines and related items, it is hard to hold back and purchase a few at a time. What can be done about this?
Plan carefully

It's easier said than done but, if you have an idea as to what figurines are being released at certain times, it should make things easier.

That said, here are the figurines that I have my eyes on. Pictures are all (c) Good Smile Company and/or Mikatan's blog. Pics are arranged from most recent announcement of release and only releases from January 2008 - 2009 February are mentioned. Older releases are all on preorder or in the process of ordering. Well, that is pretty much all the figures that I'm aiming for and fairly certain I can get hold of. Some Figma's and Nendoroids have been ommited as I'm not sure if those are within my reach (limited edition).

A joyous announcement, fellow figure-taku! Finally, Good Smile Company has become accessible for the English-speaking community.
A great thanks to everyone at GSC, Danny Choo, Danny Choo translating team and other parties involved.

The English GSC site runs on the same setup as the DC site, not only allowing the DC members to take kindly to the familiar, It also provides a user-friendly layout to newcomers.
The provisions does not stop there, GSC English site provides detailed reviews, archives of older figures, overseas ordering and thanks to Danny's corner, a closer look at the wonderful world of figure-making.

Figures | meetups | weird dreams

Oha!
It certainly has been a while since my last post. Sorry about that.
This is simple, life/otaku post but, please enjoy it.

Finally, my figure count of 8 has grown to 12 last week Friday. I placed an order for more Mecha Musume and Strike Witches trading figures, though I failed to mention this on my blog ^^;
Expect pics soon!

The day after, I hosted a little Otaku meet at my house. It was my first tie hosting one and needless to say, I was rather nervous. My parents weren't upset, they seemed to support the idea and even went as far as to buy food and related supplies for the event.
I really appreciate their ability to accept my hobby, even though they didn't at first XD
From the anticipated amount of 9, a total of 4 people were able to make it.
Sometimes smaller events are better. This proved to be true as between all the chatting; eating, trading... a smaller group is able to manage efficiently.
In short, the meetup was a success and hopefully, in future I shall blog our events in more depth.

A more random note, a dream that I had last night. I suspect that this dream is the result of being away form the internet for a while and my thoughts were occupied by it in my dreams XD
In short, the dream revolved around a party held by Danny Choo and all the members were invited, including myself. Here we bought Star Wars models, played Metal Gear Solid 4, solved paths for certain eroge...

A strange dream indeed ^^;

Sadly, the Haruhi Nendoroid wasn't available but, I chose these while I waited. I'm pretty pleased at the ones I had gotten though, I may consider buying more than of them in future as they’re pretty cheap and quite cute :3
